From René Descartes to Charles Darwin to Paul Ekman, Gloria Höckner follows the trail of surveillance technologies which analyze and classify emotions. In dialogue with a robot doll, they ask what it means to be »recognized« in the eyes of artificial intelligence. They are particularly interested in the possibility of entering into a subversive complicity with autonomous technologies and creating poetic disruptions in the system through hacking and glitching. Beyond the perpetuated categories, a realm of the in-between emerges that renegotiates questions about power and classifications.
